Just finished the book today and it was an interesting read for sure. For me personally, it was a bit too complicated, but I appreciate all the hard work that went into this book. I will have to re-read it a couple of times and then maybe classes and trees will make more sense, and it will be more practical for me to use. I got both this book and The Chess memory palace even though I don’t play Chess anymore I was curious how the author solved a chess problem that I couldn’t solve a year ago. Furthermore, I applaud writers that take the time to write about the memory techniques and try to enlighten us with new ways to do things differently. And indeed this book is not suitable as an introduction into the art of memorization, but there are many books already on that subject, so this is a welcome addition to my collection of books on this subject.

I found a typo in the book a couple of days ago (there are few things more annoying than finding a typo in your own book) and have uploaded an updated manuscript to Amazon (one of the nice things about print-on-demand is that I don’t have to wait for another complete run).
If anyone contacts me with any (new) typos, I will of course put you in the acknowledgements section as soon as I fix them. I don’t think anyone would want a [Knuth reward check - Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knuth_reward_check) from me 😀

I just ordered my copy after hearing Joe on the Craft of Memory podcast. I took a few computer science electives in college and I felt like a benefited from applying these lessons to my other studies. So naturally I was excited to hear about this book. I’m looking forward to learn more from this book and explore the applications for mnemonics.

This discussion has increased my interest in this book. Unfortunately, it is too expensive on the [Amazon India](https://www.amazon.in/Advanced-Memory-Palaces-second-should/dp/B09GJFZ6JM/ref=sr_1_1?tag=artofmemory-20) site (₹1455) and not even available on [Audible India](https://www.audible.in/)
It looks like I will have to wait for some years to read this book. 🙁

I do this by numbering my rooms, and every room having 5 items… I also have a list of every fifth room.

So when I read this I was like, “Well, it seems reasonable to offer the book more cheaply on Amazon.in compared to say the U.S or U.K” but when I logged on change the pricing, I found that I don’t appear to have published on kdp India (although kdp does exist for India) and can’t work out how to. Also ₹1,455.00 turns out to be about double the price for the UK so I suspect some third party is buying copies in another country (or expecting to) and then shipping them over at a profit.
I’ll look into this some more. I sort of assumed that I’d published for everywhere that kdp supported, but clearly it’s more complex than that.

@joereddington, It’s a good idea to offer a Kindle version as a low-cost option so that it’s more affordable. I did that for my books. If you need help, I can guide you through the basics if you want. It’s not too hard. When I shipped a printed book to Australia, I noticed that it was published in Germany and sent over which is what probably is happening with a book purchased in India.

That’s a lovely offer - I’d happily nerd out over the format’s ins and outs. I think I mentioned somewhere in the thread that I run [https://whitewaterwriters.com/](https://whitewaterwriters.com/), so we regularly put out Kindle novels, but they are a different beast. My reluctance to put up a kindle version come from a few places - including a general unhappiness with how the ebook format treats all technical work but I’m always happy to re-examine.
FWIW, talking this over with my partner gave me some ideas about ebooks in general, and some other work I have that might work, which is quite exciting 🙂

Just as a point of clarification, the way I presented skip lists is as part of ‘non-indexed’ data-structures: the advantages don’t really show up when used with method of loci or numbered items.
in general, I’m in favour of everything in the quote, I just wanted to clarify that it’s not really the thing I was trying to get across in the book. 😊

Thank you. Out of desperation, i tried to understand from your interview on Craft of Memory. I liked it and whetted my interest.
Unfortunately the price in India is 4-5x of a book. An e-book will be really useful.

The price has gone down for me, but the book isn’t in stock to buy it.
I really don’t understand how amazon is working.

I’ve been working in the background to solve some of the kdp formatting issues and I’m making reasonable progress. I’ve got a ebook I want to publish before Christmas (also about memory) and if that ebook works out then I’ll probably start properly converting (although there’s a strong argument I’d be better to invest the time in an expanded and updated version of the original book…)

Nice. If you’re willing to share, what will your second memory book me about? Also, if you’re planning on updating the first book, what kind of stuff do you want to update and add for the second version?

It’s a small ebook on memorising physics constants. It’s not for advanced users and is far less ambitious then Advanced Memory Palaces, but it will work for a small audience 🙂

Broadly - anything that people ask me for: the joy of a second edition is that you can respond to all the feedback one gets in the first. There’s a list of things I’d like to make clearer and I think at least one chapter I’d like to bring back from deletion, but I’m open to ideas 🙂

Some of you will be pleased to hear - over the last month I’ve solved enough of the typesetting issues that I’ve been able to successfully create the Kindle version of Advanced Memory Palaces. It’s having a final read-through but I expect to be making it live over the next week.
