I thought this would be a potentially useful thread that people can use, either as a reference point, or a reminder that someting they enjoy/know of has a list or structure, which they can use for memory purposes.

After re-reading _Advanced Memory Palaces_ by Joe Reddington, his example of using the Batman villains from the major films (up to that point) as a list to encode the countries in OPEC, is a great demonstration of how to encode something you want to know with something you know so well.

This prompted me to use Pokémon as a resource, which worked to great effect - memorising the 13 nations in OPEC through the coincidental 13 major trainers in the original Pokémon games just clicked. However, there’s so many more things from the games that can be converted into a easy-to-remember list.

Off the top of my head, you have: the starters from each game, the gym leaders, the villains, the rodents from the first area, the birds from the first area, the Pikachu tributes, the champions, the legendary Pokemon, etc.

From this, I wondered if there are any other forms of media that equally have a degree of an inherent list/system to them that people might use? Off the top of my head you could use:

**Taskmaster(/recurring TV Show) contestants:** 5 contestants in every series, ordered by seats alphabetically. Know every one fairly well and imagine this would work with similarly-style TV shows.

**Punch-Out fighters:** Another game example, but I think it’s possible to make a list out of the fighters in the order the player faces them; all are incredibly exaggerated and stereotypical (the newest game on the Wii really lends itself to this exercise) that you can likely work well with to create memory palaces from.

**Wrestling title lineages:** I already am trying to use a lot of wrestlers in my PAO system I’m forming, due to how over-the-top and distinctive their characters can be. With that, I can remember the lineage of some titles quite clearly, especially when I was watching more regularly, and for that, I think it’s a useful idea to link them. On top of that, yearly competitions like the _Royal Rumble_ or _Money in the Bank_ also lends itself to this approach.

**Phoenix Wright cases:** Phoenix Wright games, likewise to Punch-Out and wrestling, is filled with really colourful writing and characters; I can see a degree of order in taking a case and having the progression go Victim → Accused → Guilty, but might be a bit tough to do chronologically.

I’m sure there’s a bunch more that I’m overlooking/not perceiving correctly, but I imagine others here might know a few others that can match the idea. Would love any other suggestions.

Throwing back to old school NES, Mega Man villains in best order of attack. Each has a distinct attribute to make linking with other imagery really easy.

Example from Mega Man 2, my personal favorite!
Metal Man
Wood Man
Bubble Man
Air Man
Crash Man
Heat Man
Flash Man
Quick Man
Dr. Wily

Definitely other games with sequences of bosses, or level types would work for small scale lists!

That’s a great shout! I was originally thinking Mega Man too, but as you could face the bosses in any order, it didn’t even cross my mind that there’s that implicit order in how you face them.

For sure! Depending on the topics as well you could possibly condense 2 keywords to 1 loci to take them further.

Could also do MM villain map based on the grid they appear in on the select screen. Or just use all the villains in any order if sequence doesnt matter for your list.

I’ve found another really good media source!

### Yo-Kai

 ![Yo-Kai_Watch_NA_Artwork](https://forum.artofmemory.com/uploads/default/original/3X/0/2/0226eb46f5622ca7f2ac4383f6693c8391e78af4.jpeg)

I recently started playing the game _Yo-Kai Watch_ for the 3DS, and if you don’t know what it is, it’s a Japanese RPG where you befriend different monsters and use them to battle and progress; however, the monsters in this game are based off the Japanese supernatural folklore of the same name, _Yōkai_ (妖怪).

And while their mythology already carries a lot of intrigue and depth, the anglicized and marketed approach that they take with the creatures makes for perfect characters in trying to remember things.

2 major takeaways I’ve had in my early endeavours with the game;

1). I can use a bunch of them in my planned Shadow/Ben System; an early example I found is that, with 236, or “NeG-”, while I tried to find something like “Negative” to stick, it wasn’t really working. Whereas, the Yo-Kai _Negatibug_ is a lot more tangible.

![Negatibug; a dreary-looking insect that causes the creature it possesses to be incredibly negative and full of self-doubt.](https://forum.artofmemory.com/uploads/default/original/3X/6/8/68cac36a023f6ee7b6a53b9e4e8b031783fc90b9.png)

So, as I go through the game and see more and more Yo-Kai, it’ll be great to track which ones I can slot into my 3-Digits.

2). There’s **223** Yo-Kai in Yo-Kai watch, according to the Medallium, which is effectively the game’s encyclopedia. As long as I enjoy the game, which I am thoroughly, I imagine I’ll try and get all 100% of these creatures, and then with some linked stories, that could be a very useful list at my disposal (however, I believe a fair few Yo-Kai are duplicates of one another, so I’ll likely truncate the list into the core characters).

Eventually I’ll be looking to play Dragon Quest and maybe some more JRPGs, as they seem ripe with unique names and characters to include in memory-related techniques!
