Start with your home, the homes of your relatives, and the homes of your friends. Try to get 50-100 loci from each home. Then start using other places you’ve been that you know well, like local parks, areas of your local city, shopping malls, amusement parks, etc. Write down the loci in sequence so you can go back over them and cement the loci in your mind. You’ll get to 3,000 if you keep working at it. If you run out of real places you can think of, start adding video games, or famous rooms in movies or TV shows.

When I was memorising pi, many years ago, I created journeys with lots of locations in each room - in all the corners, windows, on top of and underneath the furniture, and so on, so that each room in my house could give up to 50 or so locations.

I don’t think it’s the ideal, but it worked for me when I wanted a huge number of loci.

Oh that is very simple: create a loci of 10,000 places by using my [Phonetic System²](https://artofmemory.com/forums/phonetic-system2-squared-and-feinaigles-artificial-memory-palace), combined with the Feinaigle aritificial memory rooms.

If you need one larger than 10,000 places, you just make up another separate list of 99 words to represent thousandth’s place, which would effectively give you 1,000,000 places. That would be the Phonetic System (cubed).

I have used in the past a room-within-a room system. I have been using this system to memorize texts with some success, though it is not perfect.
First I make a list of rooms within a house.
Second, in each room I select X number of objects that I visualize in order. Usually they all fit in a “photograph” of the room, and I follow a common path for all rooms to place the objects: I begin in the center, then I move to the top, then to the right corner, then clockwise to all other corners.
Third, for each object I add some loci.
Example:
House with 50 rooms.
Each room with 10 objects (10 is easier than 7 or 9 because of the decimal system we use)
Each object with 5 loci (for instance, center, plus four corners, or some other thing)
Room X. Kitchen.
Within kitchen. Object X. Microwave Oven.
Microwave oven has: numeric panel, screen, door, area inside, cable,

In total, 50x10x5= 2500.

I use video games… I never have any trouble finding locations and I never reuse the same area. I’m probably around 4,000… I don’t really count anymore.

I found myself disgusted by visualising so specific to every corner and so windows and so on. I feel dizzy about this method because it is too repetitive (e.g. layer one shelf, layer two shelf, on the shelf, underneath it, and behind it…). But surely, many people can do imagine themselves into rat size, going to everywhere of the house. Indeed, It is impressive.

@Bogdanm
Many wonderful suggestions already for how to create your long journey.

I thought I would add a book recommendation to your already enormous task ahead of you. But, if you find you have time, I recommend reading Derren Brown’s “Tricks of the Mind.” It was my first book on mnemonics and relevant to your situation because he went to school to be a lawyer. He learned memory techniques with great success and it allowed him to easily pass his exams. In this extremely witty and entertaining book he will share that journey and his techniques with you.

If you are already well versed in mnemonic techniques then this book wont hold much more than examples of how he memorized some famous law cases. Still useful, but perhaps a waste of your precious time right now. If you are still a little new to mnemonics, this book has everything you need to get started quick. Indeed, you can jump directly to the chapter on mnemonics in his book without being left in the dark somehow. I highly recommend it for anyone interested in mnemonics.
